RACI Matrix Best Practices

  • Every task needs exactly one Accountable person

This ensures clear ownership and decision-making authority.

  • Limit the number of Responsible roles

Too many cooks in the kitchen can lead to confusion and delays.

  • Be selective with Consulted roles

Consulting too many people can slow down decision-making.

  • Use the Informed role appropriately

Keep stakeholders informed, but don't overwhelm them with unnecessary details.

  • Review and update regularly

As projects evolve, responsibilities may shift. Keep your RACI matrix current.

  • Communicate the value of your RACI matrix

Getting stakeholder buy-in is crucial. Learn how to effectively communicate your ideas by readingHow to Get Your Big Ideas Noticed By the Right People.
